In his opening remarks to Sunday’s weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made a number of remarks while the media was present, opting to address the Shabbos morning terror attack in the Shomron community of Yitzhar in which a 9-year-old boy sustained light knife wounds. Baruch Hashem, he escaped without serious injuries. The prime minister stated that the attacked most likely intended to injure his victim more seriously, but fortunately, this did not occur.
Following are excerpts from Mr. Olmert’s remarks to the cabinet:
The Jews responding to the attack used live ammunition, hitting Palestinians who no one knows for certain had any involvement, directly or indirectly, in the attack.
Taking the law into one’s own hands, acts of brutality, which some residents of Yehuda and Shomron feel free to do, are intolerable and demand harsh and stern responses from law enforcement agencies.
There will not be pogroms against non-Jewish residents. We have law enforcement agencies, police, and the army, which combats terrorism. We will not tolerate people taking the law into their own hands – striking out at innocent people.
Just recently the hand of an IDF company commander was broken in a scuffle with residents of Yehuda and Shomron (reported HERE on YWN) and this will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
