MK (Kadima) Dr. Isaac Ben-Israel, PhD, has come out in a scathing criticism of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, calling him the worst defense minister in the nation’s history. Quoting foreign media sources, the retired IDF major-general stated Barak opposed Israel’s attack against the Syrian nuclear facility.
“I do not know of a worse defense minister,” stated Ben-Israel, who heads the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee subcommittee dealing with classified matters. In a Shabbos event in Beersheva, he expressed his support for Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni’s bid in the upcoming Kadima Party leadership race.
“Ehud Barak was presumptuous until the day he was ousted as prime minister,” he told the audience. “He lost his political courage and as a result, today, the Defense Ministry’s policy is to sit idly and do nothing,” he added.
Aides to the defense minister called the remarks “unfounded”, explaining “no plane, ship or soldier leaves the borders of the state of Israel without the minister’s knowledge and approval”.
