Defense Minister Yisrael Katz held a meeting on Sunday with the members of the Nagel Commission, which was established by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in August 2024 to establish recommendations for Israel’s military force needs and its security budget for the next decade.
During the meeting, Katz outlined the three central principles of Israel’s security policy: 1) to act against any existential threat to the State of Israel; 2) Israel will not ask anyone to fight in its place; and 3) Israel must be able to defend itself on its own against any threat, with the backing and support of the US.
“Israel must be able to defend itself, on its own, against any threat,” Katz emphasized. “The immediate risks to the State have not disappeared, and recent developments in Syria are increasing the severity of the threat – despite the moderate appearance that the leaders of the rebels are attempting to present.”
Katz added: “Israel is in the midst of a historic campaign for its security and the future of the region, and is facing diverse threats across all fronts: the north, south, and east. The defense budget must be increased to maintain our military superiority. We will act so that the IDF and the security system have all the necessary resources to deal with the many challenges, strengthen our power, and establish Israel’s status as a regional power.”
“The security of the State of Israel will remain at the top of the list of our national priorities and we will do whatever is necessary to ensure our future.”
