VIDEOS: Peleg Yerushalmi Protests At IDF Induction Centers

Declaring they would “rather die than enlist,” dozens of Charedi protesters gathered at multiple the Tel Hashomer military induction center to disrupt the drafting of yeshiva bochurim into the IDF. The protesters, affiliated with Peleg Yerushalmi, attempted to block buses by lying in the road, prompting security forces to intervene.

The demonstration created frustration among parents of incoming soldiers, who were prevented from accompanying their children onto the base due to heightened security concerns.

At least 10 protestors were arrested.

The protest – and others held simultaneously in Yerushalayim, Haifa and Kiryat Ono – comes amid a contentious debate in the Knesset over Charedi enlistment. In June, the High Court of Justice ruled that the government could no longer defer mandatory military service for Charedi yeshiva students, further intensifying the dispute. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, seeking to appease Charedi coalition partners, has reportedly pledged to push a bill granting widespread exemptions for Charedi men from compulsory service.

The debate has taken on new urgency as the military faces personnel shortages and an increased reliance on reservists due to prolonged conflicts.

  1. Don’t get me wrong. I am totally disgusted as I watch what is going on in these videos. If they really care about their לימוד התורה they would be in בית מדרש. Nonetheless, I must point out a what I heard one of these protesters saying in the video:
    נסראללה האמין ואתם לא האמנתם
    Powerful line.
(He’s referring to when Nasrallah said Israel is making a big mistake with the mandatory yeshiva draft).

  2. Declaring they would “rather die than enlist,”
(another way of saying yehoreig ve’al yaavor)

YWN would you mock Rav Eleazer menachem man schach also?
who has said, as has his son in law said in his name on numerous occasions

that a yeshiva bochur being forced to join the idf is yehoreig veal yaavor

  3. Actually it’s a bit ironic.
At the same time they’re not learning and saying that they’re ready to die.
If so, go to the army, and help protect your fellow brothers already!!

  4. When it comes to stopping the draft, they feel the need to leave the Beis haMidrash and engage in hishtadlus. In other words, learning by and of itself won’t defeat what they oppose. But it will defeat Hizbolla and Hamas?

  5. Weneedmoshiachnow:
    You seem confused.

Their point was that the Torah would require them to give up their lives rather than be shmaded in the Zionist army (regardless of whether or not they would physically survive that shmad).

  6. Shlomo 2:
You seem confused. There are halachos of what is a required hishtadlus that could thus take away from learning. Being shmaded in the Zionist army is definitely not hishtadlus, as that is, instead, yehareig viAl yaavor.

  7. What I don’t understand and there really is no true honest answer.
Which Rav or Posek or Rosh Yeshiva gave them a
    היתר
    To stand outside and protest.
We know the truth that nowadays our generation the girls the women the ones that are not frum they are not dressed
    בצניעות
If you go to the protest site
For sure you will end up seeing girls and women .
    Where in our
    תורה הקדושה
Does it say that it’s OK????

  8. @lbj if this was clear chazal I would pay more attention to that. You might be overlooking that R’shach would probably force bachurim to go to the army if it was a more Jewish army. (this is my speculatio
