An Israeli Air Force fighter jet narrowly avoided a collision with another aircraft on the runway at Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel on Saturday night, according to the IDF. The incident, which is under investigation, occurred as an F-16 jet was preparing for takeoff for an airstrike mission in Lebanon.

Footage leaked from the base shows the F-16 swiftly maneuvering to avoid a potential collision after spotting another fighter jet crossing the runway. According to an IDF statement, the near-miss resulted from “the issuance of wrong takeoff approval by the control tower, while another plane was on the runway.”

“The crews responded quickly and professionally, and a serious safety incident was avoided,” the IDF said. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported.

An internal investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the miscommunication and to prevent future incidents.
