Israel pounded Iran with a series of airstrikes early Saturday, saying it was targeting military sites in retaliation for the barrage of ballistic missiles the Islamic Republic fired upon Israel earlier in the month.
Explosions could be heard in the Iranian capital, Tehran, though the Islamic Republic insisted they caused only “limited damage.”
Saturday marked the first time Israel’s military has openly attacked Iran, which hasn’t faced a sustained barrage of fire from a foreign enemy since its 1980s war with Iraq.
Israel’s hourslong attack ended just before sunrise in Tehran, with the Israeli military saying it targeted “missile manufacturing facilities used to produce the missiles that Iran fired at the state of Israel over the last year.” It also said it hit surface-to-air missile sites and “additional Iranian aerial capabilities.”
Israel offered no initial damage assessment.
Initially, nuclear facilities and oil installations all had been seen as possible targets for Israel’s response to Iran’s Oct. 1 attack, but in mid-October the Biden administration won assurances from Israel that it would not hit such targets, which would be a more severe escalation.
Reports of explosions near Tehran began to emerge around 2:15 a.m. local time, with the Israel Defense Forces quickly releasing a statement confirming that it was attacking, in response to “months of continuous attacks from the Iranian regime against the State of Israel.”
The strikes were carried out in several waves over the course of several hours, in various areas of Iran, with the Islamic Republic closing its airspace for the duration and seemingly showing little ability to counter the assault. Strikes were reported in the Tehran, Karaj, Isfahan and Shiraz areas.
As explosions sounded, people in Tehran could see what appeared to be tracer fire light up the sky. Other footage showed what appeared to be surface-to-air missiles being launched.
As the campaign was underway, Syrian state media reported that Israel struck several military sites in the south and center of the country, action possibly taken to enable the IAF to operate more freely in Iran.
The next waves hit drone and ballistic missile manufacturing sites — those used in direct Iranian attacks on Israel on April 14 and October 1 — as well as sites used to launch such weapons.
Ynet cited an Israeli source with knowledge of the matter as saying: “The intelligence provided here by the IDF Intelligence Directorate was science fiction-like, beyond imagination.” He said the highly precise intel enabled Israel to hit “an irreplaceable factory” behind the manufacture of surface-to-surface missiles.

So Isreal finally responds… on Shabbis morning. And YWN publishes videos taken… on Shabbos morning. Nice.
guteyid – It was motzei Shabbat in Israel and Iran. Shame on you.
To guteyid,
What a silly comment to put it nicely, you should take a deep breath and think first before posting.
YWN has it’s main office in Israel, so for them it wasn’t Shabbos, so don’t be so quick to judge people like that.
As for Israel and Shabbos, they are at war with an enemy that funds Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and the Islamic Jihad terrorists, and an enemy that just shot 200 ballistic missiles at all of Israel, this is pikuach nefesh for over 8 million Jews, Shabbos ISN’T an issue here and no Gadol would say it is, they have to strike when they feel it’s in the best interest of the mission and those carrying the mission out.
this sounds like it will benefit mostly ukraine and the united snakes. bombing the factory won’t stop any of the 150,000 missiles already in lebanon, but it might prevent iran from exporting missiles to russia. the best news was that they hit the parchin base, which is supposedly the site of some secret nuclear development work.
@guteyid : the airstrikes were all at night, mr חכם בליילה.
To all you chachomim who can’t read: ‘Israel pounded Iran with a series of airstrikes early Saturday’, Shabbos or not?
(@shloimeboruch mr חכם בליילה it’s one yud. lol)
Israel waited until after the Yomim tovim to strike, so as not to ruin these Holy days for the Jewish people here in Israel, being it was not possible to know what could happen.
They didn’t want a war on Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippor or Succos, so they waited until after Simchas Torah and then attacked. It was Shabbos but they couldn’t wait any longer.
They named the attack, “Days of Repentance” “Yamai Teshuva”.
THis was the my comment (AND THE MODS RESPONSE) after a post about Shofar blowing. In that case I had not read all the details and was wrong, but what will the Mods say this time? (there has still not been a reply to my comment about the video of the Shabbos hostage rescue)

This was filmed on Yom Tov and is חילול יום טוב – it is פקוח נפש to fight, but no heter to video תקיעת שופר
Therefore the video is מעשה שבת (well, מעשה יום טוב !!) and is ossur to watch. Same goes for photos.
I was tempted to watch but I asked a Rav who unequivocally said it’s ossur.
The YNW, and the readership are not obliged to follow my Rav’s psak, but I doubt that any rov will allow it.

For reference about מעשה שבת
see ארחות שבת ח”ג סוף פרק כ”ה
even R’ Yisroel Yakov Fisher who was known for his lenient pesokim did not allow
also מצד מראה אין בו מעילה – see יביע אומר ח”ו או”ח סימן ל”ד אות ה who brings many ראיות that לענין זה there is איסור הנאה even from מראה
Moderators Note: Sometimes, it actually pays to READ. Hope you presented the shaila – in full – to your Rov (as is required according to halacha), and showed him this post. For the life of us, we can’t understand how you and your Rov (if you actually showed him this) didn’t see that this story is dated October 2 on Erev Rosh Hashanah, not to mention the article says this occurred on MONDAY. (Rosh Hashanah started on Wednesday night).

You are right – I just read the title and moved on, despite the temptation to see this post.
I did not say any Loshon Hora to anyone about the YWN, I just asked the Rav generally – and actually it was not about this post, it was about the video of the recovery of hostages which occurred on Shabbos, a few months back. I have still not seen that. Do you have a heter for me to watch it? I’d love a heter. Meanwhile, I’ve watched this video, and am waiting to seen the other one….
