H’YD: 2 IDF Soldiers Killed By Suicide Drone Fired From Iraq, 24 Injured

Two IDF soldiers were killed by a drone that was fired from Iraq at northern Ramat HaGolan in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The soldiers were identified as Sgt.  Daniel Aviv Chaim Sofer, H’yd, 19, from Ashkelon, a signals officer cadet in the 13th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, and Cpl. Tal Dror, H”yd, 19, from Jerusalem, a communications soldier in the 13th Battalion of the Golani Brigade.

Another 24 soldiers were injured in the attack, including a soldier and non-commissioned reserve officer who were seriously injured, another soldier who were moderately injured, and 21 soldiers who were lightly injured.

This is the first time that an Iraqi drone attack caused fatalities.

An initial IDF investigation revealed that two suicide drones were fired in an attack. Alert sirens were sounded for the first drone, which was intercepted. The second drone, which hit an IDF base in northern Ramat Haolan, was not detected and no alert sirens were sounded. The IDF is investigating why the drone was not detected.

The Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack.
