Meeting in Cairo with former Meretz leader Yossi Beilin, Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman explained his country is trying to persuade Hamas leaders in Gaza that without releasing IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, there can be no semblance of normalization in Gaza.

Suleiman added that he and others are working to speak with Hamas leaders in Gaza to return control to the PA (Palestinian Authority), namely Fatah leader PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), a move that is most unlikely as the chasm between Fatah and Hamas widens as Hamas’ popularity increases in most PA autonomous areas throughout Yehuda and Shomron.
