Gallant: 1,000 Draft Orders Will Be Sent To Chareidim On Sunday

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced on Thursday afternoon that the army will send 1,000 draft orders to Chareidim on Sunday.

His announcement comes despite the fact that MK Yuli Edelstein, the head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, scheduled a meeting on the issue for Thursday afternoon after IDF representatives failed to answer basic questions about their recruitment goals during a meeting on Wednesday.

A statement issued by Gallant’s office said: “Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held a discussion today on the preparation of the security system for the recruitment of members of the Chareidi sector with the participation of senior IDF officials. At the end of the discussion and after the presentation of the existing data, the Defense Minister approved the IDF’s recommendation to issue first orders to members of the Chareidi sector starting this coming Sunday (July 21, 2024), and instructed that the orders be sent in three installments.”

The statement added that the army will study each installment in order to adapt the following one and comply with the guiding principle of “recruit successfully.”

“Accordingly, on Sunday, a first batch of about 1,000 first orders for 18-26-year-olds is expected to be issued, and additional batches are expected in the coming weeks,” the statement continued.

“The Defense Minister stated during the discussion that the call-up plan for the next two recruitment cycles will be determined according to the responsiveness of the Chareidi public in the upcoming recruitment cycle”.

  1. The number is low enough that the IDF may have “pre-selected” individuals to minimize the numbers who will resist, Drafting zionists who believe their learning is more important than serving in the army, but who support the idea of the medinah, will not cause a big problem – they will show up.

The problem will be those who oppose the idea of a medinah at this time (prior to Meshiach), since those are conscientious objectors.
