The IDF has demolished a Hamas attack tunnel in southern Gaza’s Rafah, which was used by terrorists in a failed infiltration attempt last month. The tunnel, part of a 3-kilometer-long network, was destroyed in a joint operation by combat engineers, the elite Yahalom unit, and the Bedouin reconnaissance unit.
On June 6, four Hamas terrorists emerged from the tunnel, approximately 200 meters from the Israeli border, in an attempt to infiltrate into Israel. The ensuing exchange of fire resulted in the death of Warrant Officer Zeed Mazarib, 34, and three of the terrorists. The fourth terrorist fled the scene.
The tunnel was equipped with advanced features, including branching paths, blast doors, and a residential room with electricity lines, indicating a high level of planning and sophistication by Hamas operatives. The IDF had previously partially destroyed the tunnel network, but the recent operation targeted the remaining sections.
