The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chaired by MK Yuli Edelstein held an urgent meeting on Wednesday morning regarding the Chareidi draft following the report on Tuesday that thousands of draft orders will be sent to Chareidim on Sunday.
Edelstein was furious when IDF representatives were unable to provide the most basic answers about the issue. He requested information on how many draft orders are being issued on Sunday, to whom, and according to what criteria.
In response to the question of how many draft orders will be sent, the IDF representative said: “I don’t know exactly. I’ll only know tomorrow evening.” He also could not provide a response regarding the criteria for those slated to receive draft orders.
Another IDF representative said: “Due the Supreme Court ruling, we need to recruit Chareidim and we have limited resources. It will take time.”
Meanwhile, as the IDF wastes precious time amid a war on the futile task of recruiting Chareidim due to the Supreme Court and the attorney general’s liberal agenda, thousands of already-trained reservists have not been called up since the the start of the war.
Edelstein responded: “I don’t understand why it was so urgent to announce yesterday that thousands of conscription orders had been issued for Chareidim when today it turns out that there is no plan and no numbers. Tomorrow there will be a further discussion. I expect the IDF representatives to come with a detailed plan and present exact numbers.”
