Day 64 of the Virtual Gaza Ceasefire

Today, Wednesday, is day 64 of the virtual Gaza ceasefire. Since the truce was declared, at least 20 Kassam rockets and dozens of mortar shells were fired from Hamas-controlled Gaza into southern Israeli areas.

Shar HaNegev Regional Council leader Alon Shuster reports the attacks occur almost daily and while the situation today is far better than prior to the ceasefire, it is far from acceptable. He is also critical of the national government for failing to utilize this period of relative quiet to move ahead with the fortification of buildings in rocket range.

Area PTA officials met during recent days, and they are considering striking the opening of the public schools in 10 days since many of the buildings are still not fortified to withstand rocket attacks as promised.

PTA officials state, “They promised us the world but they did not deliver. They just wanted to shut us up and now, nothing is being done to improve the situation.”
