Kadima leadership candidate Minister of Interior Meir Sheetrit is running a serious campaign but pollsters nevertheless place him at the end of the four-way leadership race.
Sheetrit has been targeting his opponents by taking advantage of his comprehensive career in Knesset, as a MK and a cabinet minister. He stated “We cannot gamble on those lacking experience. From the military they move directly to senior government positions without spending years learning the system, moving into different posts and acquiring the skills required to run the government.”
“The prime minister needn’t be a general,” stated Sheetrit, referring to Shaul Mofaz, adding the prime minister needs generals around him but it is inherently more important to elect a prime minister who knows the system and has the experience to make the difficult decisions when called upon to do so.
The other candidates in the race are Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Public Security Minister Avi Dichter.
