The IDF and Shin Bet security agency reported that an IDF fighter jet targeted an “underground terror route” located within a mosque in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. The strike was directed at members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad who were reportedly using the location as a shelter.
The security agencies released a joint statement detailing that the strike was executed based on intelligence indicating that this cell had imminent plans for an attack. The specifics of the planned attack, however, were not disclosed in the statement.
Further information revealed that these terror operatives had been utilizing the mosque as a strategic base from which to plan and launch attacks. This includes the recent detonation of an explosive device in proximity to Israeli troops stationed near the West Bank security barrier. Fortunately, no injuries among the soldiers were reported from that incident.
Earlier this summer, as part of a broader operation in Jenin, Israeli forces conducted a raid on the same mosque. The operation led to the discovery of what was described as “terror infrastructure” along with various armaments.
In a separate report from the Palestinian Authority’s Wafa news agency, it was stated that the recent Israeli strike resulted in one fatality and injuries to several individuals.
