A British Airways flight departing from London bound for Tel Aviv abruptly reversed course just prior to its scheduled landing at Ben Gurion Airport, apparently retracing its path towards the United Kingdom.
The airline attributed this sudden change in plans to heightened security concerns.
In light of the ongoing conflict that erupted following Hamas’s aggressive incursion on Saturday, numerous international airlines have opted to cancel flights to and from Israel. Despite British Airways maintaining its operations until that point, it subsequently declared the suspension of its services to Israel shortly after the flight diversion.
In a statement, British Airways said: “Safety is always our highest priority and following the latest assessment of the situation we’re suspending our flights to and from Tel Aviv.

In all fairness, commercial airlines usually do not carry (or can not get) “war risk” insurance, since no sane insurance company will insure a commercial airline flying around a war zone where both sides are shooting rockets at each other (and one side seems to think it is a good idea to aim at killing foreign civilians).
