Otzar Haaretz director Ika Ness announced on Monday that with Shmitah year almost behind us, the organization plans to continue selling quality produce during the regular years, providing goods grown only by Jews.
Dore Lichtenstein, who heads the marketing department of Otzar Haaretz, explains consumers are entitled to know the origin of their purchase, in this case, the farmers growing the fruits and vegetables. He adds that in the case of imports, one is entitled to know the origin of imported items as well.
Otzar Haaretz during shmitah year sells fruits and vegetables from Jews who observe shmitah according to law, enabling those who do not abide by the heter mechira to purchase Jewish-grown kedushat shvi’it produce.
