Prime Minister Ehud Olmert received a warning from the High Court of Justice, instructing him to be more cooperative with police.

The court was responding to a petition seeking to have him declared incapable of continuing and to compel him to appear for questioning with police whenever requested to do so. The three-justice panel rejected the petition, but the panel did inform the prime minister’s attorneys that failure to cooperate with police may indeed open a door to declare him ‘incapable’, a move that could be taken by the attorney general.

The judges stated that having the attorney general make such a declaration based on a criminal investigation against the prime minister is a bold step that would only be taken in an extreme case.
