According to intelligence experts in Israel, Hizbullah is planning an attack against Israelis in western Africa, warning citizens to be increasingly vigilant. Despite the credible warning, the government’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau is not issuing a travel advisory for the western Africa area.
In a rare move, security officials traveled to western Africa in an effort to warn the small Jewish community of the impending threat. Officials report this marks the first time that officials traveled to an area to personally warn residents of an attack – explaining it is believed the terror organization is indeed planning to strike to avenge the February car bomb explosion that killed Imad Mughniyeh, Hizbullah’s deputy commander.
Security officials actually traveled from house to house and the area shul to warn community residents of the possibility of an attack.
Following the recent implementation of the Regev-Goldwasser prisoner exchange deal, Hizbullah is now able to move ahead with the planned attack without fear of compromising efforts to release terrorists imprisoned in Israel.
The area marked in the terror alert is home to a small number of Jews, less than 20, but hundreds of Israeli travel to the area for business.
