Syrian General Muhmad Suleiman was assassinated by sniper fire in Syria over the weekend, the Arab media reports. Suleiman was Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s most senior military advisor as well as the liaison between Syria and Hizbullah. It appears the actual assassination took place on Friday, but Syrian officials prohibited any media reports, as was the case following the assassination of Hizbullah deputy Imad Mughniyeh in February.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the assassination and official sources in Damascus are remaining silent at this time.
