Leaders of the anti-judicial reform protests in Israel vowed to continue protesting even after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s speech on Monday evening announcing a suspension of the reform to allow for negotiations with the opposition.
According to the left-wing organizers, they’re continuing the protests until the judicial reform legislation is permanently shelved.
One protest leader, Roi Neuman, even said outright that “our goal is to replace Prime Minister Netanyahu.”
Following Netanyahu’s speech on Monday evening, protest leaders wrote on Twitter: “The announcements by the prime minister and his extremist partners are a concession of their intention to re-enact the dictatorship’s laws in the next Knesset session, harming the economy and the security of the country.”
“In the face of the attempt to turn Israel into a dictatorship, millions will take to the streets and defend the State of Israel and the Declaration of Independence.”

This headlines is extremely disingenuous. Yes. But the protests on Monday weren’t from the “leftists.” They were from Israelis from all walks of life who thought that the government was being dragged by its extreme elements to do things against Israel’s own interests. The economic advisors (who Bibi appointed himself) warned of major havoc if the reforms were to be passed. Many people on the right and center (and yes, in Israel there is definitely a center) thought this was going to far. Even Likud ministers like Nir Barakat and Yaov Gallant. The people protestesting now will always protest because they have an extremely negative view of the whole right (and even center) in general. When you conflate these things you are misinforming your readers and causing them to be more extreme against reasonable people who have different views then theirs.
They don’t care about the Judicial reform, which they know is necessary, and not even about democracy, which they also know they want to destroy, but just to bring down the government and act against over a million religious citizens.
They know, if Netanyahu is forced to halt the reform the government will fall.
Who cares about judicial reform when the High Court as it stands now is as compromised as it would be with judicial reform? They’re venting over a non-issue. Why didn’t they protest like so against the clot shots? That was a real issue. Maybe they’re just protesting now over this non-issue cuz it’s an opportunity to vent their frustration built up from what was a real issue that they all neglected?..
No surprise. The protesters want to be sure that Bibi’s proposals are defeated, whenever they come up for a vote.
The Dan, you are disingenuous. No, the protesters were not from “all walks of life”, they were radical leftists who support dictatorship. The big demonstration was for the reforms, by the majority who voted for them and look forward to finally reversing the coup that took place 30 years ago without any kind of “national consensus”, and restoring actual democracy.
