Following Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s call on Motzei Shabbos to halt the judicial reform, a number of his fellow Likud members responded with anger to his “surrender to the left.”
Coalition chairman Ofir Katz stated: “Whoever does not vote for the reform this week has ended his political career in Likud.”
Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi said: “I ask Likud voters for forgiveness for our Defense Minister who surrendered to the pressure of the left. The State of Israel is at a historical crossroads between democracy and dictatorship and its Defense Minister chooses dictatorship and supports army refusal and a military coup. You don’t revoke the nation’s choice in order to pander to the media and the elite – that’s not democracy.”
MK Moshe Saada said: “The Likud party clearly decided that it’s necessary to move forward with the legislation. If Minister Galant doesn’t believe in this path, he is invited to put down his keys and not do a ‘Bennett act’ to the millions of right-wing voters.”
MK Dan Iluz stated: “Galant is an Israeli hero who contributed his best years to the benefit of Israel’s security. I agree with the need for dialogue and with the attempt to bring things to a broad consensus. But for three months now we have been proposing dialogue without an answer from the other side…the reform is good for Israel and giving in to threats for refusal is the most dangerous thing in the long term. This could be a very dangerous precedent.”

Its clear he realized before he went public that his actions were going to end his political career. However, you cannot claim to be responsible for national security when there is an open political rebellion among a growing segment of the reserve forces which are the core of your defensive capability.
They should remove him from his post and the Likud.

“Whoever does not vote for the reform this week has ended his political career in Likud.” I couldn’t more wholeheartedly agree:- How dare anyone Likud MK not fulfill the mandate of the 2 million voters for the right wing block, and defer to the minority 1 million {sore-looser} protestors.
Galant is the only half-sensible guy in that cabinet of clowns. The Right are lucky to have there to save them from themselves.
We Charedim should remind ourselves that in a few years’ time, Bibi’s career in the Likud will be over. The Secular Right will be weaker than ever and a mighty anti-Charedi coalition will very likely rise in Israel. The only ones to stick up for Charedim will probably be the High Court, as they have done in Hendel’s proposed cellular reform, and with anti-Charedi Draft bills on multiple occasions. Giving politicians the ability to select their own High Court justices will eliminate this balance of power and will give the likes of Lapid and Liberman unlimited power to do as they please with the Charedim.
I hope and pray that Galant succeeds in halting this stupid, foolhardy move that is only designed to serve bibi’s personal interests.
He is realistic. Asking the secular, almost all Ashkenazi, largely pre-1948 immigrants, and upper class elites to give up control of Eretz Yisrael would be similar to those who asked those running “Ancien Regime” to turn over the country to those who won the elections. They won’t be agreeable, and it could lead to the country have horrible experiences in foreign wars. The anti-religious, left wing, UPPER CLASS has economic control, and are responsible for the economic policies of “Startup Nation” that has given most of Israel a 1st world standard of living and military security. Asking to turn over a country they see as “their country” to the people they see as mortal enemies (“us”) is not realistic.
