A minor earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale hit northern Israel early Wednesday morning, with its epicenter located near Tiveria.

There were no reports of injuries or damage in the quake, which was the sixth one recorded in Israel since the beginning of February.

Israel lies on the Great Rift Valley, an active fault line. A major earthquake measuring 6.2 hit the area in 1927, leaving about 500 people dead and 700 injured. According to experts, a major earthquake occurs in the region about every 100 years.

Tiveria resident Esty Dahan told Ynet: “My room shook. There was noise from the furniture moving. It was the first time in my life that I felt an earthquake and it was really frightening. I live in an old house and it’s not protected against quakes.”
