Once again, Israelis on Motzei Shabbos protested against the government’s planned judicial reforms and the “end of democracy.”
During the protest in Tel Aviv, protesters waved a huge banner with an image of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu next to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini.
The banner stated in English: “From start-up nation to shut-down nation.”

Reiven, where did you see anything about Heaven?! If you are so ignorant of basic Hebrew as to think עליון means Heaven, you shouldn’t comment on anything in that language. עליון simply means “high”. It is completely appropriate to use it for the High Court; not just in Modern Hebrew, as “a Yid” suggests, but even in Leshon haKodesh.
The comparisons to Khomeini, Erdogan, and Putin are obviously ridiculous and easy to dismiss, but the comparison to Orban seems reasonable, and one that Netanyahu would likely welcome. Orban, like Netanyahu, is doing the right thing and is being attacked as a “fascist” by all of the actual fascists whose power he is challenging.
