HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein on Wednesday sent letters to the Paley and Lederman families, who lost their sons in the Ramot terror attack.

Since the Rosh Yeshivah feels too weak to travel to Yerushalayim to pay a shiva call to the families, he sat down on Tuesday evening to write a letter and asked that it be delivered to the Paley’s home in Ramot and the Lederman family in Elad.

After words of consolation, HaRav Edelstein wrote to the Lederman family: “It’s written in the sefarim that Avraham Avinu being saved from the Kivshan HaEish was not for his needs, since he wouldn’t have lost anything if he was burned al Kiddush Hashem, and on the contrary, it would have been worthwhile for him to die such a death since through it he would have been zocheh to immeasurable Olam Haba, but min haShamayim, Avraham Avinu was saved from the Kivshan HaEish in order that Klal Yisrael will stand by it.”

“And therefore, the niftar Reb Altar Shlomo h’yd, who was zocheh to be mekadeish shem Shamayim via his petirah – it’s of great benefit to him because he is surely enjoying unimaginable pleasures in Olam Haba and he’s happy now in the Yeshivah shel Ma’aleh, and he also was zocheh to additional great zechuyos – that the entire tzibur will be inspired through his petirah to increase many good deeds and chizzuk b’Torah and yiras Shamayim and middos tovos…and all these zechuyos will be credited to his zechus in Olam Haba.”

“It’s true that we mourn what we’re missing because it’s natural we miss him but we don’t need to be mitzta’er, but to feel as if it’s like someone who traveled to a far place where we can’t be in touch with him although of course we’ll miss him, and to remember that Hakadosh Baruch Hu is the Av HaRachamim and everything that Hakadosh Baruch Hu does is for the good.”

The Rosh Yeshivah ended the letter with the words: ויהי רצון שתזכו כל בני המשפחה להתנחם בכפליים, ומעתה אך ששון ושמחה ישיגוכם ונסו יגון ואנחה לאורך ימים ושנים מדושני עונג”.
