Sixty percent of Israelis feel that there is a high to certain likelihood that the struggle between the reform’s opponents and supporters will deteriorate into violence.
According to a recent poll commissioned by the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI), this concern exists in all camps, at similar levels, regardless of political outlook, age, or religiosity level. Only 31% of Israelis, less than a third, think that the chance of such an outcome is low or non-existent.
In addition, according to the survey, which was carried out by Smith Research, 35% of Israelis – one in three – fear civil war.
Responding to the survey results, JPPI President Yedidia Stern noted, “These numbers appear unrealistic at first glance, but in fact, as we double and triple checked, we found that Israelis don’t think the possibility of some sort of violent conflict is just political rhetoric or media spin; it’s a real concern.”
The split in the nation over the judicial reform is clear – 41% support it and 44% oppose it.
Furthermore, JPPI’s survey shows that Israelis believe the judiciary is in need of change – only 16% oppose any change – but they also believe that it shouldn’t be the revolutionary change proposed by the minister of justice as only 22% support every change proposed in the reform package.
The survey also shows that 50% of Israelis would like to see dialogue on the reform before it is enacted, including 42% of those who voted for the coalition parties, and 56% of those who voted for the opposition parties.
“There is clear, broad public support for compromise and dialogue among those who support the reform and those who oppose it. There is a huge silent majority of Israelis who fear a civil war and want their elected officials to enter into a negotiation process. These survey results are a flashing red light that Israeli politicians must heed. Our nation depends on it,” said Stern.
The poll, which has a margin of error of 4%, was conducted among a representative sample of 600 Israeli Jewish adults, January 30-31, 2023.

The left is fighting for its life. Until now, the system was that the same clique elects judges, and no one from the outside that leftist clique can get it. And those judges can overall laws enacted by the Knesset, so the current system basically ensures that the left always rules. That dictatorship is now threatened, and they are reacting with blackmail, threatening that this will cause the economy to collapse, that there will be a civil war, etc. and they’re taking steps to give bite to their threat.

Granted there’s the part of Israeli politics that I don’t understand that I probably will never understand however, I’ve done some reading about this judicial reform and it actually sounds like what netanyahu wants to do is it makes sense.
As I understand it the judiciary branch does what they want and they are not responsible to anyone. You can’t have that in a government. They need to be responsible to the people, to the electorate. They need to be responsible to the electorate just like the other branches are.
I think it’ll do the country much better if there is judicial reform. Bring it to the 20th century and out of the European model that is so pervasive in EY.
Israelis had 5 elections until they reached a (somewhat) workable majority. These issues, as I understand, were discussed during campaign, not something planned in secret. Therefore, there is no reason for additional surveys, voters were surveyed already.
FAKE NEWS – AND YESHIVA WORLD NEWS PUBLISHES IT AS FACT. THIS IS PART OF THE LEFTIST PROPAGANDA WAR. THEY’RE RUNNING SCARED.
JPPI IS A FAKE LEFTIST ORGANISATION.
I think it’s probably time to have some respect for the Satmar Rebbe. They are taking over the government and possibly causing civil war. CIVIL WAR! This is not what any of the cholkim on the Satmar Rebbe had in mind.
