Israel Police on Monday morning filed an indictment against a 19-year-old Palestinian who was arrested for infiltrating into Israel and allegedly threatening to carry out a terror attack in the city of Bnei Brak on Shabbos.
According to the police, its hotline received a call on Friday night at 11:08 p.m. from a Palestinian who said that he was standing at the Geha Interchange in Bnei Brak. The Arab, who had apparently quarreled with his father, said: “I want to murder my father,” adding that he’s “now imagining going to kill someone Chareidi” in the hope that the police will destroy his father’s house.
Police officers from the Bnei Brak station immediately began searching for the Arab and quickly located him. He was arrested and transferred for questioning.
He was brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Sunday morning and the court approved the police’s request to extend his case despite the claims of the Arab’s lawyer that his client was only crying out for help.
“A study of the case shows that the circumstances are complex and this isn’t the place to specify the details,” the judge wrote in her decision. “The suspect has no criminal record but the circumstances of saying the things in the way they were said and despite the fact that no tools were seized in the suspect’s possession to actually issue his threats, I did not find it possible to order his release. I accept the request and order the extension of his detention.”
