Supreme Court Opts to Remain Uninvolved Regarding Talmud Torah Law

court hammer3.jpgThe Supreme Court on Sunday decided to remain uninvolved regarding petitions challenging the new Talmud Torah Law, permitting state funding for chareidi schools not complying with the court’s ruling that secular subject matter be taught. The law was pushed through Knesset by the Shas and Agudah parties, circumventing the high court decision.

The petition was filed by the Reform Movement, seeking to compel chareidi schools to include secular subjects in their curriculum. The court did express its position that secular subjects should be introduced into the chareidi schools and signaled it would rule as such but it is unable to do so following the Knesset passing the new law.
