The Haderech newspaper of Shas added the title of Moreinu V’Rabbeinu to HaGaon HaRav Moshe Maya’s name following the petirah of HaGaon HaRav Shimon Badani, z’tl, on Wednesday.
According to a B’Chadrei Chareidim report, HaRav Maya, 84, is l’ma’aseh now the Zakein Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah of Shas.
For many years, the title of Moreinu V’Rabbeinu in the Sephardi Torah world was reserved for HaRav Badani, z’tl.
HaGaon HaRav Maya is the Rav of the Yad Eliyahu neighborhood of Tel Aviv and the head of the Maayan HaChinuch HaTorani network.

Since when do newspapers decide which Rov gets what title?
UJM: The media get to decide just about everything these days. Good to see they have anointed a Rov from the more progressive community of Tel Aviv rather than another Sephardeshe Rov from Bnai Brak . On a serious note, though, I assume they are simply reporting what their sources within the Moetzet have shared with them
@GH your actually self anointed!
Gadol – right. This is Siman, not Sibah.
@ujm:
newspapers do so, since the time of Agudas Yisroel, when the poloticians started to make decisions, and tell the rabbonim what needs to be done, and the rabbonim then have to agree, rather than instructing the politicians what to do.
anyway what do you want, since and due to aguda joining political parties etc, what do you want? obviously, the next korban is Judaism itself. simple. you politicize orthodox religious Judaism, and all the most basic tenets of Judaism flies out the window, bye…
