National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Sunday instructed Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai to order police forces to remove any PLO flag from public spaces and to stop any incitement against the State of Israel.

According to the new directive, every police officer of any rank will be permitted to remove PLO flags.

“It’s inconceivable that lawbreakers wave terrorist flags and incite and encourage terror and therefore I ordered Israel Police to remove flags supporting terrorism from the public space and stop the incitement against the State of Israel,” Ben-Gvir stated. “Identifying with terrorists and harming IDF soldiers is not covered under freedom of speech. We will fight terrorism and the encouragement of terrorism with all our might!”

Matan Peleg, chairman of the Im Tirztu movement, said: “This is a very important day for governance, an important day for Zionism and the State of Israel. It should be understood that the purpose of raising the PLO flag is to rebel against the State of Israel and convey a message that there is room for a terrorist entity within the territory of the State.”

“Today it is already clear to everyone what the connection is between the waving of terrorist flags and the encouragement of the nationalist extremism and violence of Israeli-Arabs. We saw the results of the lawlessness in the 2021 riots [in mixed Israeli-Arab cities during Operation Guardian of the Walls] and it must not happen again.”

  1. while some of us may not like palestinians or palestinian flags if we do not fight for freedom of expression today, the day will come when ben-gvir’s ruling will absolutely hurt us.

Actually it is, but Israel already has no freedom of speech. So at least let us take advantage of that.

Besalel, there is no freedom of expression in Israel. We have already been hurting because of that; Ben-Gvir is just making it equal.
