According to security officials, a number of Hamas terrorists released from Israeli prisons are behind the credible terror warnings of planned attacks in Yehuda & Shomron and inside pre-1967 Green Line Israel.
Hamas terror cells are scattered in different areas of Yehuda and Shomron and IDF and ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) intelligence officials are reporting they are engaged in tenacious efforts to rehabilitate the Hamas infrastructure in those areas.
The released terrorists in many cases have acquired new and deadlier skills, learned from senior terrorists imprisoned in Israel. Acting on GSS recommendations, prison officials are seeking to make such contact in prison more difficult, hoping to avoid the current situation that exists, in which imprisoned terrorists improve their skills while incarcerated in Israel.
Most terror warnings pointing to Hamas refer to the Chevron and Shechem areas.
Hamas has stated it is not bound by any ceasefire agreement in Yehuda and Shomron, only in Gaza.
Intelligence experts believe Hamas is working in earnest to perpetrate ‘quality’ attacks in Yehuda and Shomron to exhibit its capabilities in the areas under Fatah rule.
These realities are also relevant in ongoing talks to obtain the release of Gilad Shalit since intelligence officials point out that releasing murderers will result in their renewed activities against Israeli targets.
The statements from intelligence community experts reflect the true realities, which contradict statements released by cabinet ministers, seeking to allay fears, stating that prior to their release, terrorists with “blood on their hands” sign statements committing not to return to a life of terror.
