Security Event Delays Gur Seudas Shlishis Tisch

gur.jpgTwo people who attempted to enter the Gur Beis Medresh were stopped after the security guard became suspicious of them. When the guard attempted to question them, the two fled the scene. The event led to a delay of the entrance of the Rebbe Shlita, and as a result, the seudas shlishis tisch was delayed.

According to the Ladaat.net report, the guard became suspicious of two people attempting to enter the beis medresh located in Yerushalayim’s Geula neighborhood. The guard immediately reported the incident to his superiors and police were immediately notified and a patrol car was sent to the beis medresh.

According to the report, 2,500 chassidim and visitors waited to enter the hall but the incident did indeed result in a delay. Police took up position by the entrances along with chassidim in order to identify those entering the hall. Only after everyone had entered and the event ‘secured’ did the Rebbe Shlita enter seudas shlishis.

  1. does anyone know if they in fact aprehended any suspicious people? Do all Rebbes have Israeli Police doing security checks at the doors?

  2. sounds like you’re more worried about he sholosh seudos than the possibility that they were terrorists!!!!!!

  3. Boruch Hashem for the Rebbe shlita and for the Israel police and for the chasidim who helped screen those who came to listen to the Rebbe and see him.

  4. Aliza, just because 2 suspects fled doesn’t mean that there weren’t others who could possibly infiltrate. Always better to be on the safe side, especially in the light of recent terrorism in Yerushalayim: Mercaz HaRav & bulldozers. The security guard was right to call the police, even for a SAFEK pikuach nefesh.

Shame on you for talking like this on Kedoshim!

The people in Ger know the Halochos of shabbos very well; I don’t think they have a shortage of Rabbonim and Gdolei torah.

You on the other hand must be very concerned with halacha, and therefore you came to ask the Sheila/question on YWN, interesting! I wonder from whom in YWN exactly were you expecting to hear Daas Torah.

  6. You think you need a “heter” to call police after you have reason to believe that there are two suspects who intend to harm Jews. The fact that they ran away confirms the suspision that you now have a valid reason to believe that they are likely seeking to harm Jews. Running away means that they may simply switch their target. How can you waste time seeking a heter when Jewish blood is at stake. Don’t be frum/krum at the expense of someone else’s life and security!

  7. Neve Aliza and # 5, If they were a determined to be a threat what makes you think they wouldn’t try again. pekuach nefashos over rides the laws of Shabbos. Don’t be so self righteous.

  8. To NeveAliza,
    1. the security gaurd at the entrance of the Gerer Bais Hamedrish is Romanian Goy, and he is the who called police.
    2. The police did not come so the Rebbe can come to Tisch. Rather to make sure the place is safe for the close to 3 thousand people who were already inside the Bais Medrish.
(very easy not be DON LECAF ZCHUS, especialy when you don’t have facts)

  9. Being a little bit less pro-Zionist might help.

Why don’t we need a security guard at any event by Toldos Aharon, Dushinsky, Satmar or Neturei Karta?

Hisgarus be’umos leads to, indeed, the goyim getting angry and attacking you…

Our rabbonim have taught us and continue to teach us not to provoke the goyim.

  10. And let’s remember one more thing: just because Pikuach Nefesh is doche [overrides] Shabbos, doesn’t mean that if you have a non-Jew to do the Melacha [phone call], that you should do it yourself. Only if it’s an immediate threat to life, & calling yourself would make the difference, should you do it yourself. And of course, y2r is right, the Gerers are certainly well-verse in Halacha!

  11. #2 you seem to forget that by the time chassidim have shalosh seudos it’s already tzeis hakochavim so no chillul Shabbos was involved. Besides if they were terrorists and catching them would prevent further acts of terror it’s Pikuach nefesh!
