IDF Southern Brigade Commander Colonel Shloime Dahan has survived many close encounters during his military career, but he is now fighting for his life, ironically due to a vehicular accident.

The colonel was seriously injured in an early-morning vehicular accident in the Gaza periphery community on Wednesday morning. His military driver is listed in moderate condition.

The two were transported by helicopter to the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva. Due to his head injuries, he is in a medically induced coma, on life support. According to Dr. Gadi Shaked, he also sustained facial fractures and abdominal injuries.

Military police have launched an investigation.
