One person was r”l killed and four people were wounded in a shooting attack at a checkpoint between Kiryat Arba and Chevron on Motzei Shabbos.

A 50-year-old father and his 19-year-old-son came under fire. The father, who was later identified as Ronen Hanania, h’yd, was critically injured and his son, who was miraculously saved from serious injury, watched his father’s life ebb out in front of his eyes. The father was evacuated to the hospital via helicopter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital but his death was pronounced shortly afterward.

The seriously injured man was a Magen Dovid Adom medic who came under fire when he arrived at the scene to assist three lightly injured victims, the son and two civilians who had run to the scene to help. A civilian security guard then arrived at the scene and rammed the terrorist with his car and an off-duty soldier then opened fire, killing the terrorist.

The medic, later identified as Ofer Ohana, in his 50s, was evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in serious condition. He is now being treated in the ICU and is sedated and ventilated. The public is asked to daven for the refuah sheleimah of Ofer ben Tova b’toch shaar cholei Yisrael.

The niftar’s son, Daniel Hanania, who was released from the hospital after being treated for light injuries, said on Sunday morning: “Abba was a man of chesed, a man of mitzvos, who loved to help others. He was a man of shalom. I want everyone to remember my father and who he was and I request that people honor him by coming to the levaya at 4 p.m. at Har Hamenuchos in Jerusalem.”

Another 48-year-old Israeli was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in light condition and was released from the hospital on Sunday morning.  A 37-year-old Palestinian resident of Chevron who was lightly injured in the attack was transferred by Israeli forces to the PA’s Red Crescent.
