Chief of Military Intelligence Warns of Attacks in the North

In his briefing to the cabinet on Sunday morning, IDF Chief of Intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin delivered somewhat of a mixed message, explaining that it appears Israel’s enemies are uninterested in beginning a war while US President George W. Bush remains in office.

On the other hand, he did warn of the possibility of armed conflict on the northern and southern borders, explaining after last week’s implementation of the Regev-Goldwasser prisoner exchange deal, there was the chance the terror organization will decide to launch a revenge attack for the February 2008 car bomb killing of the organization’s deputy commander, Imad Mughniyeh. He explained that the IDF believes a limited military campaign is possible, but it is unlikely that it would escalate into a full fledged war. He also warned of the increasing Hamas threat along the southern border.

As far as Syria and Iran are concerned, he explained that Damascus is managing to emerge from its political isolation while Iran continues to ignore the international community and it forging ahead with its nuclear program.
