Possible Attempted Attack Against Israeli Diplomat Abroad

Officials are confirming reports that a male posing as an FBI agent abroad tried to enter the home of a senior Israeli diplomatic official. He fled the scene when security officials became concerned that something was out of place.

The incident was kept quiet since it took place a number of months ago. The person came to the home of an Israeli consul-general, seeking to enter under the guise of being an agent of the FBI. The consul-general’s home is protected by members of the local law-enforcement as well as Israeli security personnel.

According to the information released, the imposter presented FBI identification and was ushered into the lobby of the building by the local policeman. The consul-general’s driver however became suspicious, asking the policeman to inspect the visitor once again. At that time, the male ran outside, got into the waiting vehicle and fled the scene. A check with the FBI verified no agent was sent to the home from any branch of the federal agency.

As a result, security has been increased and there are now three policemen instead of one, additional Israeli security agents and two armored vehicles traveling in his convoy.

New York City police have confirmed that during recent months, security has been stepped up for outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Gillerman, who they explain is well-known as a result of his numerous public appearances. After an anonymous person was seen photographing Gillerman’s building, the decision was made to increase security around him. Security has also been stepped up surrounding the NYC Consul-General Building as well as Israeli diplomatic buildings in Canada.

ABC reported last month that Hizbullah had sleeper cells in Canada which were planning attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions in retaliation for the February 2008 car bomb attack in Syria that claimed the life of Imad Mughniyeh, the terror organization’s deputy commander.
