In a rare step, Yeshivas Mir of Yerushalayim announced on Tuesday evening that Elul zman will begin on Thursday instead of Sunday in light of the many tragedies that have befallen the Chareidi kehilla in Eretz Yisrael over Bein Hazmanim.
Thousands of bochurim and avreichim who learn in Yeshivas Mir were scheduled to return to the Beis Medrash on Sunday, the first of Elul, like all other yeshivos around the world.
However, after Rosh Yeshivas Mir, HaGaon HaRav Eliezer Yehudah Finkel, consulted with Gedolei Yisrael, a decision was made to begin the zman early.
A notice was published in the Batei Medrashos of the Mir announcing the change. “Due to the severe tragedies in recent weeks, rachmanah litzlan, we have nothing to do but be mechazeik b’tefillah and the toil of Torah, and therefore, at the request of Moreinu Rosh HaYeshivah, after consultation with Gedolei Yisrael, all bnei yeshivah are called to bring forward as much as possible the sidrei Chodesh Elul, to this Thursday, the 28th of Menachem Av, erev Rosh Chodesh Elul.”
“Transporation to yeshivah will operate as usual beginning on Thursday morning.”
The tragedies hit Yeshivas Mir on a “personal” level as the terrible bus accident on Rechov Shamgar took the lives of the daughter-in-law and granddaughters of HaGaon HaRav Yisrael Glustein, one of the Roshei Yeshivos of the Mir.

40 years ago, Yeshivas Slobodka, Bnei Brak, started every zman early, before Rosh Chodesh. Not sure what they do today.

Chassidishe mosdos in EY started this past Sunday. In fact, Rachmistrivka ended on Wednesday following Tisha B’Av and began this past Sunday: leaving 4 days for Bein Hazmanim.
ממה נפשך all this is way too long before this all Important American Icon of Labor Day for American comfort and for the businesses of all these summer outlets
Maybe it’s time to show more Ahavas yisroel by embracing people thay dodnt look like us into our schools and yeshivas would mitigate our problems.

(I’m not sure what that means he consulted with gedolei yisroel, if he was trusted to take over this chashuve yeshiva, we have to trust him in his decisions. This is all part of the chutzpa yasga of ikvise dimisheecha, we don’t trust anyone, and we love taking every ounce of individuality out of our gedolim and bochurim)
It’s about time we started heeding the words of the של”ה הקדוש:
ועיקר הכולל הכל יהיה נעקר ונשרש מן העולם השם של בין הזמנים, לא יזכר ולא יפקד, רק כל העתים שוים לטובה – And the all-encompassing root is that the name of בין הזמנים should be uprooted and removed from this world, it shall not be mentioned or remembered, but all times will be equally good.
ולא יזכר ולא יפקד שם בין הזמנים ויעקר מן העולם – And the name of בין הזמנים should not be mentioned or remembered and will be uprooted from the world.
Reciting תפילת השל”ה on ער”ח סיון is worthless if we ignore his other admonitions and guidance.

Hashem Himself taught us by Personal example that before important decisions one should confer with others, (even with those beneath oneself if need be) – and ‘asked the advice of the Malachim’ before creating Adam (see Rashi on the words נעשה אדם – Bereshis 1;26).
I don’t suppose that ‘our gedolim and bochurim’ know better than Hashem… (how the bochurim came in, i’m not quite sure – even if a bochur has been learning b’hasmada for 10 years, he is still not yet Da’as Torah, and should certainly be asking advice on any major steps he contemplates making).
Boruch Hashem we have a Rosh Yeshiva who despite his prestigious positions in the Olam Hatora (he is also the youngest member of the Mo’etzes Gedolei HaTorah) he does not let it go to his head and בענותנותו asks the Gedolim. We are lucky to have a Rosh yeshiva who appreciates the weight of such a decision, when the learning / health / sholom Bayis / parnosso etc. of 6000+ bnei torah is in the balance, and he knows WHO to ask, HOW to phrase the shaila with all it’s aspects and HOW to come to a final decision.
The חוצפה של עקבתא דמשיחא you mentioned is the way you attacked a choshuve Talmid Chochom, who was saying a daily Iyun SHiur shiur for many years before he became Rosh Yeshiva.
