Iraq’s defense ministry has issued a statement denying rumors that were circulating last week of Israel Air Force fighter jets conducting maneuvers over Baghdad in advance of an aerial assault against Iran.

General Muhmad el-Asqari stated, “We did not see Israel Air Force jets conducting exercises in our airspace.”

The general’s statement was in response to rumors quoting an “Iraqi Defense Ministry source” that Israeli jets landed in an American base in Iraq ahead of an offensive against Iran.

The Office of the IDF Spokesman denied the rumor, stating there was no such event.
