Foreign Ministry Defends Appointment of New Israeli Ambassador to the UN

Foreign Ministry legal counsel Ehud Keinan in a letter to attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner stated the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations elect, Prof. Gabriella Shalev never had a connection with the B’tselem human rights organization and will not in any way represent the organization in her new post.

He added she was not appointed by any political body and has no loyalty to any political entity.

In his letter to Shurat HaDin, responding to Darshan-Leitner’s accusations that Shalev is linked to the radical left-wing (see YWN July 6th article HERE) Keinan stated this is simply not the case.

Keinan adds that he has Shalev’s resume and has confirmed the information, adding Prof. Shalev emphatically stated that she never had any connection with B’tselem.

“Shalev was never part of the establishment of any political entity, especially B’tselem” stated Keinan, an organization with a characteristic spirit which is contrary to the Jewish People and the State of Israel.
