Following the massive levaya on Sunday for HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, z’tl, the late Gadol HaDor’s sons began sitting shiva in the modest home they grew up in on Rechov Rashbam 23, the very place where HaRav Chaim, z’tl, sat and learned for decades, only interrupting his limmud to receive the public who constantly flocked to him.
Three separate minyanim for Mincha were held on Sunday at the shiva house for HaRav Chaim’s three sons, HaGaon HaRav Avraham Yeshayahu Kanievsky, Rosh Kollel of Orchos Ish, HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Kanievsky, Rosh Yeshivas Kiryat Melech, and the youngest son, HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Shaul Kanievsky, who was appointed as the Rav of the Lederman shul at the levaya.
Many of the menachamim at the shiva house mentioned the fact that HaRav Chaim, zt’l was niftar during the year of Shemitta, a topic about which he spoke about often throughout his life and was very mapkid on. Another intriguing fact mentioned was that since this year is a leap year, HaRav Chaim, who completed Shas every year on Erev Pesach, finished on Erev Purim this year thanks to the extra month, which enabled him to complete Shas one final time before his petirah.
The throng of menachamim continued on Monday, including HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein, as can be seen in the photo below:
L’havdil eleph alphei havdalos, political figures also began paying shiva calls on Monday, including Defense Minister Benny Gantz, who was accompanied by UTJ MK Yaakov Asher.
Meanwhile, dozens of babies in Eretz Yisrael and throughout the world have already been named Shmaryahu Yosef Chaim after HaRav Chaim, z’tl, including a great-grandchild in the Kanievksy family.

BTW One NEVER SAYS “Lehavdel Elef Alfe Havdolos” from one Yid to another!!
No matter if its regarding a Rosh Yeshiva vs a Policital Figure or not.
One says Lehavdil ONLY between a Yid and a Goy.
Please correct. Not nice.
Kol hakuviod for the son of Reb Chaim (the one sitting on the far right – not sure his name) who clearly AVOIDED looking at the face of this………
