President Issac Herzog, who flew to Turkey on Wednesday to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met with members of the Jewish community in Istanbul on Thursday morning.
His arrival at the historic Neva Shalom shul was welcomed with great joy and pomp, with shofar-blowing and singing. The shul even had special kippos made in honor of his visit, bearing the Israeli and Turkish flags.
During Herzog’s speech, he mentioned Turkey’s rich history of Rabbanim and also called for tefillos for “our Jewish brothers and sisters in Ukraine.”

As noted previously, the relationship between EY and Turkey is really complex, and you really cannot tell whats going on based on the public statements and antics of Erdogan. Beating up on EY is part of his shtick every time his political ratings head south but there always seems to be a respectful working relationship between the professional military and intelligence services of both countries.
ignoring all the zionist idolatry,
Yitzchak Isaac happens to be a very nice Jewish name
Dorah:
You mean between Turkey and the Zionist State of Israel, not EY.
Erdogan came out as an open enemy of Israel during the Trump years when in spite of his authoritarian stance Trump was warm and friendly to him. He was smart enough to flatter the ex president and Trump, loving the flattery, decided Erdogan is his good friend. Now Trump is gone, there’s a new administration that’s not friendly to dictators and Erdogan realized he’ll have to moderate his anti-Israel rhetoric or he’s out of favor with an ally he needs.
