Bayit Yehudi Fares Well in Popularity Poll


bennBayit Yehudi party cabinet ministers enjoy a great deal of support from party voters, a Panels Politics poll reveals. According to the poll released in the weekend Sof HaShavua newspaper, the most popular among the party ministers is party leader Naftali Bennett. Bennett enjoys a rating of 77%. Other ministers did not do as well, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who earned a 73% rating in the poll. Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon scored 71%.

Other Bayit Yehudi ministers, Uri Ariel and Uri Orbach scored 66% and 67% respectively, well behind Bennett. Other ministers rated in the poll include Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman (65%), Interior Minister Gideon Saar (61%), Finance Minister Tommy Lapid (54%), Minister of Homefront Affairs Gilad Erdan (59%), Minister of Regional Development Silvan Shalom (57%) and Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz (57%).

A poll taken by the Russian website News Row reports that Bayit Yehudi’s support is not just from its obvious constituents, citing the party enjoys 12.8% support from the Russian-speaking community while Yesh Atid’s support from that community is down to 9.8%.

Regarding personal popularity, 9.6% of those polled would like to see Bennett as prime minister while only 4% feel this way regarding Finance Minister Yair Lapid.

  1. The decision to throw hareidi yeshiva students in prison rests with Bennett. It doesn’t appear that Likud is so thrilled with idea, and if Bennett breaks with Lapid, and given the option of substituting Lapid with the Hareidi parties, the movement to throw hareidim in prison will collapse. I suspect most of Bennett’s constituecy would be content to limit government support of yeshiva students to those students being veterans, which won’t affect the “fanatical” hareidim who don’t accept government money.
