Pensioners Revive Tzomet Party

The MKs who recently broke away from the Pensioner’s Party, Moshe Sharoni, Elchanan Glazer and Sara Marom-Shalev have signed an agreement which will result in the rebirth of the defunct Tzomet Party which was started by the late minister and retired IDF chief of staff, Raful Eitan. The party did not receive enough votes and was dropped from the Knesset in 1991.

The dissidents from the Pensioner’s Party first hoped to sign an agreement with Arkadi Gaydamak but the deal was ruled illegal. Efforts to launch their own party were ongoing while they conducted talks with Tzomet officials, leading to the deal.

According to the limited information available regarding the agreement, the three will be given much latitude to vote their conscience in Knesset votes, but will be compelled to discuss policy issues with party chairman Moshe Green.

Tzomet has also guaranteed the group representation on one-half of the party’s organizational bodies.

Sharoni stated he is very proud to have reached a deal to represent such a fine party as Tzomet and expects to continue on the path of its founder.
