A group of left-wing extremists from the Breaking the Silence organization traveled to Chevron on Friday in another of the organization’s provocative visits to the area.
The morning ended in a harsh exchange of words and tempers flaring as they attempted to visit the Kiryat Arba grave of Dr. Baruch Goldstein. The visiting group was intercepted by area residents including Itamar Ben-Gavir, Baruch Marzel and Noam Federman, who prevented them from continuing on their visit, which is viewed by area residents as a provocation.
The tour of the area was coordinated with police and the visitors did have a permit. Police eventually intervened and compelled the visitors to leave the area.
The Chevron district police commander recently stated the members of the radical organization do disturb the peace in the Chevron area and are a provocative factor.
Dr. Baruch Goldstein shot and killed 29 Muslims in the Ma’arat HaMachpelah on February 25, 1994. He was subsequently murdered by the mob when his weapon jammed and he was then attacked and beaten to death.
