Eldad: Vote to Dissolve Knesset Would Not Guaranteed

In a seemingly prophetic statement, National Union MK Prof. Aryeh Eldad told Kol Chai Radio on Tuesday night that he did not believe the vote to dissolve the current coalition would pass. His statement came at a time when the passing of the vote appeared to be a sure thing, with the Shas and Labor parties favoring the bill.

Not claiming prophetic powers, the MK explained that unfortunately, the current situation in Knesset much resembles Korach and his followers, stating there is no principle in Knesset, just the various parties seeking to advance their own agenda. That being the case he added, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert realizes everyone can be won over with a deal, a promise, a commitment to act in their interest.

Eldad stated that if the issue was one of principle, with lawmakers expressing their inability and unwillingness to be led by a corrupt leader who is under police investigation and likely to face a multi-count criminal indictment, things would be different, for the better.

Eldad made his statements well ahead of the deal reached between the prime minister and the Labor Party, resulting in Labor backing down from its decision to vote to dissolve the government.
