IDF Chief of Intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin on Sunday told members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee that Hamas, Syria and Hizbullah have been working towards neutralizing what may be a “hot summer for them with Israel.”
He added that while the scenario is a relatively calm one towards the end of June, the situation is still a volatile one which may explode at any moment, in part due a miscalculation by the other side. “There is potential for explosion on all fronts” Yadlin added.
A few months ago stated the intelligence chief, it appeared that Israel would be involved in an “aggressive military action during the summer” involving the radicals, Hamas and Hizbullah. “They thought” explained Yadlin that this would be Israel’s last opportunity to take advantage of the outgoing Bush administration.
In reference to Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, Yadlin stated he is in a ‘win win’ situation vis-à-vis talks with Israel.
