Noam Shalit, the father of captive soldier Gilad Shalit, met on Sunday with Amos Gilad, a senior Defense Ministry official dealing with the Egyptians on a number of issues, including the deal with Hamas leading to the ceasefire.
Following a petition by Shalit to the high court seeking to prevent the opening of Rafiach border crossing until his son is released by Hamas, the court ordered Amos Gilad to meet with Mr. Shalit and provide him with details of the ceasefire agreement, which the government maintains will eventually lead to Gilad’s release from captivity.
High-level officials called Sunday’s meeting productive, stating Mr. Shalit asked difficult questions.
On Monday morning, Noam Shalit will return to the high court and once again address the court regarding the meeting, at which time the court is expected to rule on the original petition. Following Sunday’s hearing, the court issued a restraining order preventing the change in the status of the border crossings until noon Monday.
