Shooting Victims Waited 40 Minutes for Rescue Forces to Arrive

mda chopper.jpgThe survivors of Friday’s shooting attack in Wadi Zarka are calling it “a miracle,” stating they waited 40 minutes for help to arrive.

The group decided to take an erev Shabbos hike in the wadi, northwest of Ramallah, with one of the group, a Magen David Adom volunteer armed with an M16 automatic weapon. They went into the spring to cool off when the terrorist(s) opened fire with a handgun [not an automatic weapon as first reported], leaving 19-year-old Avraham Kasir seriously wounded.

The youths explained they ran and took cover, uncertain if the terrorists were in pursuit. Yehuda Yisrael, 19, who sustained light injuries, explains they climbed a mountainous area and from there, called MDA and authorities for assistance. Apparently, it took some 40 minutes for the ambulance to locate them, and due to the difficult terrain, the rescue vehicle could not get close enough to the victims, three in total.

The air force’s 669 elite aerial medical rescue unit was summoned and the victims were finally removed from the attack scene some 90 minutes after the attack.
