As part of an ongoing corruption investigation that has now been revealed to the public,
Israel Police on Sunday morning arrested four suspects, including a senior Chareidi civil servant who is an assistant to one of the Charedi party leaders, on charges of bribe, fraud and breach of trust.

The other suspects include a former public official, the head of a medical company, and a known Chareidi lobbyist.

The arrests were made following an intensive undercover investigation by the National Fraud Investigation Unit in Lahav 443, the “Israeli FBI.” Police also conducted searches at a number of locations in addition to the suspects’ homes and offices.

A police statement said that the public employee, together with the other suspects, allegedly accepted bribes to advance the interests of large commercial companies, in a clear conflict of public interest and while taking advantage of their positions.

The suspects were transferred for interrogation and will likely be brought to the Rishon L’Tzion Magistrate’s Court for a hearing later on Sunday.

UPDATE: Police have announced that those arrested are Moti Bobchick, the senior advisor to Minister Yaakov Litzman, Menachem Gsheyd, a journalist, Erez Gilhar, the CEO of a lobbying company, as well as the CEO of a pharmaceutical company.

  1. Another “chareidi” looking guy being corrupt and stealing the public trust! Oy vey! מחללי שם שמים ר״ל
Maybe it IS time for a new face in the government

  2. …and of course, we have full faith in the secular Israeli justice system to fairly judge Chareidim – right? – OR NOT!

  3. As Capt. Louis Renault once famously said: “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!”

  4. I would not be surprised if one day we find out that this investigation was ongoing for 7 years and they had 34 Police Officers assigned to this investigation. Plus these Police Officers were so busy with this investigation that maybe they each had about 2000 hours in overtime on an annual basis and let us do the math.
7 times 2000 = 14,000 over-time hours and what happens if they retire now, they get a fat pension.
Probably this investigation costed the tax payers about 100 million New Shekel.

  5. Litzman has no shame. At least the ZAKA head resigned, returned his award and disappeared. The arrogance of this supporter of perverts is incredible. He truly makes me sick, and he has done plenty of other rotten things to shore up Arad and his own power. Low life.
