Yamina leader Naftali Bennett broke his silence since signing an agreement with Yair Lapid to form a unity government with left-wing parties, speaking with Channel 12 News in an interview last week.
When the interviewer pressed him on how he could break his explicit promise to form a “stable right-wing government” and his signed declaration that he won’t serve in a government headed by Yair Lapid, Bennett claimed that “the ‘main promise” was to get Israel out of the chaos by avoiding fifth elections.
“I knew I would be criticized but I chose what’s good for Israel,” Bennett said. “I told my kids that their father was going to be the most hated person in the country but I explained that I was doing it for the sake of Israel.”
Bennett has already paid a heavy political price for his position, with the majority of his supporters decrying his decision to join forces with Lapid. According to a Direct Polls survey carried out on Thursday, if Yamina would run today, the party wouldn’t pass the election threshold.
Hundreds of people, mostly from the Dati Leumi community, have been demonstrating outside the houses of Bennett, Yamina No. 2 Ayelet Shaked, and Yamina MKs Nir Orbach and Idit Silman. Orbach and Silman are considered the most likely to back out of supporting the unity government but both have stated that they are standing behind Bennett’s decision.

Emmet, Shekker, who cares!
This filthy TREASONOUS sewer rat has sold his soul to the filthy murderous Arab terrorist’s.
For what? for some stinkin KAVOD.
For the first time in Israel’s history, the enemy within the murderous Arabs will be part of the government, and completely dependent on them.
75 years ago after world war two, we had a name for a rat like this, it was “KAPO”
Nope…He didn’t do this for Israel…it was all about Bennett. He wanted to be Prime Minister so much, that he was willing to sell out everything. OK…so he will become Prime Minister – not for long.
A government of polar opposites cannot last. How can he take action against terrorists, when his coalition is supported by Hamas-leaning Arabs?
This fool thinks he will do reverse phycology on the entire Israel and ppl will have mercy on him!!?? He’s an Idiot because he has alienated himself not just from entire Israel but even most of his own voters. When this Govt. will fall through (it def. will question is only how soon) Bennett will be looking for a Job.
A Democracy means that the people choose their goverment. Isnt it weird that the Prime Minister of a democratic country admits that he is “the most hated person” with less than 6% of the votes? Bennett is hated for a reason. He lied to his voters , he wasted no time doing so. He thinks the ends justify the means, he has deluded himself into thinking that he can lead a coalition of almost all left wing politicians. He lied from the start, claiming to represent National Religious interests, when he proved himself to be a wolf in sheeps clothes. Just as Hashem lifted up Haman, he has lifted up Bennett.
Maybe he’d like to go on Oprah and talk about it. He and Harry could do a joint program and cry about how they are misunderstood and mistreated. He lied and he lies now. But, all will be revealed in the end, of this, we can be certain.
I wish Bennet no harm and pray that he is safe.
However, I find his comment of “for the sake of Israel” shallow at best. Do not go on national television and sign a pledge that you will not form a government with Lapid and then a short while later form a government with Lapid and say that it was for the “sake of Israel”.
Everyone knew before the election that a fifth round of elections was possible — that includes Bennet. Indeed, not only did Bennet know it before the elections, but he knew it WHEN HE MADE HIS PLEDGE.
In short, don’t deceive the electorate and then claim that you did it for the “sake of Israel” — particularly when it benefits your personal, political career and ambitions.
People don’t like being lied to and deceived. Even more, they don’t like being lied to and then being told that they are doing it for their own good – PARTICULARLY WHEN WE DO NOT THINK IT IS FOR OUR OWN GOOD. We would rather have a fifth round of elections then this “government”.
He’s right. How could he say he’s doing it for Israel? He’s doing it for his own political power. The Chareidim are in for a lot of tsuris, and he has sold all frum people, including his own dati leumi community, down the Jordan River with no lifevests.
chugibugi – would you say the same heinous things about Bibi? After all, Bibi made the offer to Raam before Bennett did. Let me be clear: I disapprove of what Bennett is doing. But I am aware that he is not doing anything that Bibi has not done in the past (or at least, in the case of Raam, tried to do).
Hashem is showing us not to trust any politician, we learned it the hard way with Bibi, when he gave away Chevron (no one believed that he would do that), then came SHARON, we all had faith in that big talker, people would say if only he became prime minister he would end the Arab problem. Sharon ended up bringing us the problem of GAZA….
Now a new “shining star” came up, his name is Bennet, people started to put their faith in him, and what happens? ……
We need to turn away from these empty politicians and focus on Hashem and his torah and Massim Tovim
“I need to keep the most important promise I made to the people, and that’s why I’m the most hated man in Israel.”
Gadolim have been blasting this guy for a long time. They knew what he was. Only the foolish dati leumi fell for his con.
