Israeli left-wing politicians are calling for the Jerusalem Day flag march which was rescheduled for Thursday after being canceled a month ago due to a rocket barrage from Gaza toward Jerusalem, to be canceled.

Israel Police senior officials are meeting on Sunday and will likely approve the march, with some changes to its normal route in the Old City of Jerusalem, including avoiding passing through Sha’ar Shechem.

Left-wing politicians are calling on the police to cancel the march, saying that it is likely to reignite tensions and could lead to renewed violence.

Yesh Atid MK Ram Ben Barak claimed that the timing of the march is intended to thwart the  formation of the Lapid-Bennet government. Meretz chairman Nitzan Horowitz slammed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for attempting “to burn down the country on his way out of Balfour.”

MK Ahmad Tibi of the Joint Arab List and MK Issawi Frej of Meretz sent letters to Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai demanding that the march be canceled.

The Hamas terror group also slammed plans for the march and called on its supporters in the Old City to protest. “We call on our people to hold mass protests at al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday,” Hamas stated. The Islamic Jihad terror group issued a similar statement.

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar warned that the group will “burn Israel to the ground” if it threatens al-Aqsa again.

A Motzei Shabbos report said that Defense Minister Benny Gantz held a security assessment and will demand that the march be canceled as it would require special security arrangements and could harm public order and political proceedings.

  1. I’m no left winger but I don’t think this march should go on.

Like it or not (I Don’t) it will cause tension. It’s not worth the fight.

  2. All the left wing nuts in Israel were so “proud” to allow the LGTBq parades to go on endlessly during the pandemic, but g/d forbid Israelis should have a parade waving the Israeli flag in their own capital. Gantz is the biggest wimp ever to be called a general.

  3. Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s threats are empty threats (at least in the short-term). The only reason that there is “quiet” now is because the IDF did an amazing job of, at least temporarily, setting them back. Aside from bluster, Hamas will think twice before REALLY doing anything. Unfortunately, the NEW government with Hamas sympathizers in the coalition, will not allow the IDF to do what it does best!

  4. Perhaps the headline should be: “Left-Wing Parties Join Warn Against Jerusalem March, as Hamas threatens Israeli lives”.
Gives it a different flavour doesn’t it?
Amazing how a headline can slant a reader’s perception of the story.
